Sarah Jessica Parker- and Her Tote Bag- Love New York

Vogue | September 2020

By Christian Allaire

Sarah Jessica Parker is the ultimate New Yorker. She and her husband Matthew Broderick are some of the West Village’s most famous residents, and during the pandemic, the actor’s heart has remained very much in the city (not unlike her Sex and The City character). This summer, Parker even used her Instagram page as a space to highlight New York restaurants, encouraging people to get out and support local businesses. Lately, Parker has also been getting back to work by helping sell SJP shoes at her flagship store in midtown.

Yesterday, Parker once again stopped by the store and was ready for business—only this time, she carried a tote bag that proudly displayed her love for her city. Parker strolled into the store carrying an “I Love New York” bag, a touristy tote that takes on a new meaning when worn by a tried-and-true New Yorker (especially after all the challenges the city has faced this year). The rest of her outfit was chic and offset the kitschiness of the bag. Parker wore a snakeskin-print top and artfully clashed it against a tartan skirt. Her sleek, black pumps, lace-print mask, and neon-pink crossbody bag also dressed the whole look up with a bold finish. The fit embodied what a classic New York style vibe is all about: being impeccably dressed and willing to take risks. It’s hard to make tourist merch look good, but leave it to SJP to do just that.
